Facial Reflexology for Beginners
A self care ritual you can easily implement into your daily routine. Our skin often communicates with us when there is something wrong internally and presents in various ways such as acne, eczema etc. That’s why a holistic approach to skin is so important, heal yourself from within and your skin will follow.
+What is reflexology?
An ancient chinese medicine that uses pressure to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, bringing corresponding organs back to homeostasis. In simpler terms, reflexology uses pressure points to stimulate the nervous system, restoring normal function to the targeted areas. This allows us to heal our bodies specific needs like digestion, hormonal balancing and so much more in just a few simple steps.
+How do you do it?
Using light pressure and small circular motions, move around the face covering each point or zone of the protocol you’re focusing on. Move at a moderate pace— think one second per circle and about 10-15 circles per point, that’s all you need! You can do this on a clean face or apply a very light amount of facial oil of your choice (my favorite is linked here) Always end your reflexology session with about 10 circles around each ear. This locks the formula into place and also stimulates all of the points and nerves around the ears. If you’re short on time you can just do around the ears for a quick “reset” to give your system a jump start for the day!
+Beginner tips:
If you notice a spot on your face that feels tender, hot, or a little “zingy” stay there for an additional 5-10 circles to really work out the energy that is stuck there.
No matter what protocol you’re doing it only takes a few minutes so it’s nice to also use that time to meditate, clear your head and really focus on breathing while you do your reflexology.
I prefer to do this first thing in the morning, it allows me to start the day off right with a minute to myself before the baby wakes up. At night before bed I will stimulate point 34 (found above the eyebrows) to help me relax and fall asleep quicker, again focusing on my breathing and clearing my head.
